It's a very interesting construction since you are working the bottom of the cardigan in one piece, then splitting off stitches for the right, back and left sides. I'm working on the back section right now. A lot of stockinette stitch, which is fine since I'm not up for much more than that right now. I chose Vanna's Choice from Lionbrand Yarn in Taupe for this sweater. I had it in my stash and wanted to use it.

Fullerton Cardigan

The other is the Tranquil Tank Top, published by Lionbrand Yarn on their website.

I originally found this pattern when they were having a KAL for it. I didn't get it started then, but had it in my Ravelry projects page and decided now might be the time to get it done! It's going along really well. It's a bottom up Tank Top that splits in an interesting way in the front. There's just enough lace and cable in it to keep me occupied. I chose Yarn Bee, Must be Merino - Aran for this. I love the softness of the merino in this yarn. It does have a slight halo though.

Tranquil Tank Top

I am wanting to continue working on a lace shawl as well. It's the Obsession Shawl by Hillary Latimer. She published this pattern on Ravelry as part of a MKAL. I'm WAY behind finishing it, but I'm enjoying it when I feel up to something a little more challenging, but not too challenging either. I chose Lionbrand Microspun for this one. I think the yarn has been discontinued by now, but it has FANTASTIC stitch definition. I'll post more about that later.

Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-48336841357039386182020-07-07T06:05:00.002-07:002020-07-14T04:14:08.148-07:00A return to the blogIt's been awhile since I've attempted to keep a blog going. I have thought that I should get back to it for some time now. When I started, I thought it would be a good way to journal my crafting . . . and my sometimes crazy life. I was busy with family and full time work in Aerospace, and it never came to be. Since then I've left that world and I'm currently using my creative gifts in the Fabric Department and NeedleArts Department of a local craft store. I enjoy helping people get what they need for their projects and provide help with questions.

I still very much enjoy crafting . . . sewing and knitting are my go to crafts. My knitting projects are in Ravelry . . . I'm karynsettles there. My sewing projects are likely going to end up here on the blog. I'm currently focused on a couple of Knitting Projects. . . the Fullerton Cardigan from the Spring 2018 Issue of Knitscene magazine and the Tranquil Tank Top from Lionbrand Yarn's Website.

Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-26252521094804198802011-02-19T21:02:00.001-08:002011-03-26T20:56:39.321-07:00Finally Finished . . .

Cable Luxe Tunic
Originally uploaded by karyn_settles
my Cable Luxe Tunic!

Pattern: Cable Luxe Tunic
Design: LionBrand Online Patterns
Yarn: Vanna's Choice - Linen

In late 2008 I started this sweater with the intention of finishing it with a KAL that Lionbrand was having at the time. I got the cable for the yoke completed rather quickly but was scared to pick up the stitches for the garter stich part of the yoke and put down the project for quite a while (the better part of the year 2009). When I picked up the project again I found out that my slip stitches at the edges of the cable for the yoke came in very handy and I was off and running again, until the spring and new projects and life took over again until I picked it up and told myself to finish it!!!!!!! I am so glad I did. It is stunning and I think I'll get a lot of wear out of it.
Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-48472745702770766772011-01-02T21:10:00.001-08:002011-03-26T20:56:39.324-07:00A new Winter Coat for meI have finished my winter coat. A while back I made a granny square blanket for a good friends little girl. The blanket became a favorite lovie and mom had to give it to me for repairs. I received it in very good condition and was able to after understanding what was necessary make the necessary repairs in short order.

And now to the point . . .giving this blanket back to it's recipient. I met mom and daughter yesterday to give them the blanket back. I haven't seen them in some time and I doubt the now toddler would have remembered me at all. We met at a local restaurant that is near my work and the mom's home. Since we were all hungry we decided to have lunch. While waiting to order I gave the toddler the shopping bag with her blanket and went about getting settled for lunch. We had great food and wonderful time talking and enjoying ourselves during what was a way to quick lunch hour for me. When I left, mom asked toddler to give me hug good bye . . . I got a big hug and a kiss from her! Made it all worth it . . . and made my day.

Here's are some pictures of the blanket I took after making the repairs.

Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-41200159347318415942010-05-16T10:14:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.332-07:00Slanting Gretel Tee . . .

Slanting Gretel Tee
Originally uploaded by karyn_settles
It's finally finished! In January I was part of a Knitting Daily Online KAL for this pattern. It took me way longer than it should have but I finally finished it.

Pattern: Slanting Gretel Tee
Designer: Petra Manis
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Greenline DK
Happiness scale: 4 out of 5
Construction: bottom up raglan

It still needs to be blocked but I think it turned out beautifully. I enjoyed the construction and would do it again. I will definitely get a lot of wear out of this sweater, especially this fall as it starts to get cooler and maybe in the next few weeks as it still hasn't gotten quite warm enough to get out of the sweaters yet. This will be a nice layering piece.
Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-21265442928707641152010-04-21T18:18:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.335-07:00Frost Diamonds . . . It blocked very nicely and garnered many compliments today when I wore it to work! The yellow color was fantastic on me . . . I couldn't have asked for a better garment. This will go on summer vacation with me!
Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-35193912447595108872010-04-18T19:48:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.339-07:00A finished projectI finished Frost Diamonds today. It turned out beautifully! I can't wait for it to get dry so that I can wear it! The blocking was a little difficult with all the points but I think it's going to work out OK. I am going to take final pictures of the project once it's dry. I did take some pictures before blocking and after pinning it down though Here is how it looked before blocking.

I think it is beautiful before the blocking but it will be absolutly stunning after it's finished. I have put some points on the edging and the blocking really opens up the lacework.

The designer, Stefanie Japel is amazing! I have made many of her designs. They are straightforward to knit and stunning to wear! This shawl has fitted shoulders making it easy to keep on. The design was in the Winter 2009 Knitty. I used some yarn that I had begun as another project. I ended up feeling that the project wasn't working out and thought the yarn needed the "right" pattern. I really found it. The yellow-gold color reminds me of the Sun and I just love it!

I'll write some more when I get final pictures! I am so glad that I worked and finished this piece!
Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-13874520700684354212010-03-29T20:07:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.342-07:00Sunny Frosted Diamond . . .I am knitting Frosted Diamonds in a beautiful sunny yellow color. The ladies at theYarncraft podcast, here were talking about teaching others to knit and they mentioned a post I made to their group on Ravelry . I feel so lucky to be mentioned . . . and lucky for the reason . . . teaching a friend to knit. A while back my friend "M" mentioned to my DH that she was thinking about taking knitting classes. DH mentioned to her that I'm a knitter and told me she wanted to learn. I immediately offered to teach her. She is an amazing person and so fun to be around. Well, she did come over and we are continuing to see each other for "lessons" on a fairly regular basis. I feel blessed to have the chance to teach someone the craft. She is learning quickly and getting more confident in her crafting each time I see her.Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-86663168800872713472010-02-14T13:54:00.001-08:002011-03-26T20:56:39.354-07:00I am a Ravthlete!I am a Ravthlete . . . I medaled in the frogging category but it still counts. The event was Aerial Unwind. I frogged my Best Friend Cardigan and my Corset Tee 2. I am also competing in WIP Dancing and will now concentrate on that . . .

Here is my medal!

Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-53012037390276315092010-01-30T12:09:00.001-08:002011-03-26T20:56:39.360-07:00Ribbed Cap - Part 2:) DH gave my BIL Mark his cap . . . and it was well received! He put it on immediatly and before my DH could drive the 20 minutes home, Mark had called to tell me how much he liked it and how much he appreciated it! Ordered KP Shine yarn to make another in cotton for him to wear in bed. He commented that he would like something in cotton for when the weather is warmer and for bed. A definite go do as soon as I get my yarn.

In the same order, I bought a complete set of Zepher needles from KnitPicks. I have the Nickel Options set and love them too. I am using a set of Zepher tips I purchased at my LYS to try on my Slanting Gretel Tee and love, love, love them! Order should arrive Feb 1 and I can't wait!

Knit On!Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-7228337673723081422010-01-14T12:40:00.001-08:002011-03-26T20:56:39.363-07:00Ribbed Cap

Ribbed Cap
Originally uploaded by karyn_settles
I just finished this ribbed cap for my BIL Mark. He is undergoing chemotherapy for throat cancer and has lost his hair. I used his favorite color for the main body of the cap and added the stripes to "jazz it up" a little bit. I think he will wear it.
Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-13094772908339518122009-11-22T08:02:00.001-08:002011-03-26T20:56:39.365-07:00Traveling Woman . . . It turned out beautifully! I wore it yesterday and got several nice comments on it. I used Malabrigo Sock. I loved this yarn and already have more for another shawl. I don't know if I'll do this one again or maybe Ishbel by Ysolde.

On other fronts . . . we'll be having Thanksgiving at our home on Thursday so I am busy getting the house ready for all the family and friends who will be attending. I finished painting my bathroom and it turned out very nicely. That's a post for another day. It is a free pattern for a scarf size shawl with a wonderfully pretty but really easy lace pattern. I used Malabrigo Sock for it. I am in LOVE with Malabrigo. It is the most luxurious fiber I have ever used. I can see why so many people love "the Mal". It is going well and I am debating right now whether to add a repeat of one of the lace charts in order to make the overall size a little bigger.

Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-23862182141417235132009-09-17T21:52:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.373-07:00Some Fun and Some Not So FunFirst, the Fun, a quiz

Question for you: What's the best knitting gift you ever received?

Weather outside: Warm, but I do belive that it will soon be fall.
What hurts: My heart. This last week my FIL took a turn for the worse and sadly, passed away on Monday. Our family is doing well thanks in large part to the Peace of our Lord. I keep telling myself that my FIL is in a better place now . . .I have to think he must be whole in body, if you really have a body in heaven, and that he is watching over us. I know that he must be looking out for DD#1's Volleyball team. They have won both their matches since his passing. He is our families guardian angel now. Rest in Peace, Grandpa. We will miss you.Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-5826237696876752172009-09-11T21:15:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.377-07:00A Hat Completed

A LB Homespun Country Beret
Originally uploaded by karyn_settles
I finished my beret. I am cleaning closets, DD #2 room and boy do I have a lot of stuff that I'm getting rid of. I am in a good mood to be cleaning. I want to be rid of clutter right now. I need it. That means its a perfect time to be doing what I am doing.
On other family front . . . my FIL will be moving to a nursing facility soon. He has been in the hospital and not doing very well outside of the hospital. I know that it will be very hard for my MIL to be without him at home but he will be much better off going where his condition can be monitored. I know that he wishes things could be different. It is hard for me to imagine how hard it must be to want to do so much and not have your body working for you. He is a wonderful man and I hope that we as his family can make what we can see as the end of his life with us as wonderful as possible.
I have decided that I am going to finish a shawl I had in hibernation for my MIL and give it to her as a prayer shawl. I know that she will be especially fond of it and know that my prayers are in every stitch. She is a beautiful woman who I am proud to have as a part of my life. I know she thinks of me as her daughter from the time that I married her son and my DH nearly 20 yrs ago. That means a lot to me because I have such a close family of my own and they have a good relationship with my MIL and FIL too. When I called my DM to tell her that things were not looking good, she asked how he was and called my MIL after we talked for a while. Things are OK for now and that makes me feel somewhat better.Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-30444535451636969922009-09-05T15:12:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.399-07:00School Starting SoonThis weekend will be our last weekend of summer vacation for my girls. They start school again the day after labor day. We have gone school shopping for them and aside from a few things that we have to get in supplies for DD#2 we should be set for the start of school. Both the girls will be playing Volleyball this fall and we hope for some fun. DD#1 has made her HS Junior Varsity girls team. DD#2 is playing in an outdoor league to begin learning the basics.Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-11275465410930074332009-08-23T18:29:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.403-07:00Herb Garden Shawl

Herb Garden Shawl
Originally uploaded by karyn_settles
Today I finished my Homespun Herb Garden Shawl. I love the color but the pics don't do it justice. I have the feeling that I will be giving away this shawl . . . there is a special person who needs my prayers right now and a warm shawl. My MIL is dealing with my FILs illness. We are all praying for him right now.
Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7284025620526928372.post-71305440036199087922009-08-20T18:44:00.001-07:002011-03-26T20:56:39.407-07:00Speaking of FamilyI am particularly close to my family. I love them dearly and would never give up the time I have to spend with them, thanks to them being so close. Along that line, I enjoy genealogy . . . the study of one's family tree as well as my knitting. I found a wonderful site today that I just had to post about. It's a website and blog called The Family Trunk Project. If I even had 1/10th of this woman's passion and creativity I would be blessed beyond belief. She is taking on the job of designing knitwear of all types based on her feelings and remembrances of family members and friends. Such a wonderful thing. The designs are truly original and beautiful. Check them out.Karynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13011109061257493712noreply@blogger.com0
