Reading

Lately I have been doing a lot of reading. DD #2 likes to spend time at our local library and that means that mom gets to take her. I really don't mind at all. I remember a lot of childhood times when I could spend hours in a library. I was and am a reader and know that a love of books can take you anywhere. My most recent reads are quick and remarkably different genres. The first was Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich and the second was Summer on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. I read them in one sitting each.

Twelve Sharp . . .I have read all of the Stephanie Plum Series up to twelve and am trying to pace myself so that I don't have to wait to buy the latest two which aren't in my library. I have one more to read before I'm caught up and it's likely that if I sit down with it, I won't stop. I am picking the day to read it. Maybe on Saturday next week. My Birthday is that weekend and maybe I can get away with it. These books make me laugh hysterically! I love the banter that is always going on between the main characters and the heroine is wonderful. Spunky and Tough are the best words to describe her. Oh and there's the romantic twist in this series that I find wonderful too.

Blossom Street. . . Ms. Macomber has done it again! I love the characters in this series of novels. They are strong people who are kind. Reading about their lives makes you want to be a better person. Her real life scenarios are wonderfully written. The strength of these characters is different than in the Stephanie Plum series but strength the same.

I would recommend these books to anyone who wants a pleasurable summer read.

My First KAL . . . That I Think I Might Finish

Circle Shrug Yoke Originally uploaded by karyn_settles I decided to join a KAL. I tried one before but I never seemed to be able to keep up and decided that the sweater, Lionbrand's Cable Luxe Tunic, must have been too much for me at the time. I am slowly finishing the Sweater though. This next one is going much better. I was able to join the Lionbrand Yarn, Textured Circle Shrug, Knit A Long and keep up. Stefanie Japel, one of my favorite designers is moderating / hosting and I am so excited. Her designs are elegant, yet very easy to wear and make. The design chosen for the KAL is her Textured Circle Shrug from the Book GlamKnits. Lionbrand has offered the pattern for free for a short time so you don't have to buy the book. Stefanie is blogging weekly at Lionbrand with lots of great tips and hints for making things go smoothly. It is like having the designer sitting next to you helping you with knitting the design. It's great! I'm looking forward to having ...

My current WIPs

I am working on a few interesting projects right now. I've been going between them regularly since I can't seem to stay on one project. The first is the Fullerton Cardigan, published in the Spring 2018, Knitscene Magazine. I've gotten to the back of this bottom up, dropped sleeve, seamless cardigan.  It's a very interesting construction since you are working the bottom of the cardigan in one piece, then splitting off stitches for the right, back and left sides.  I'm working on the back section right now.  A lot of stockinette stitch, which is fine since I'm not up for much more than that right now.   I chose Vanna's Choice from Lionbrand Yarn in Taupe for this sweater.  I had it in my stash and wanted to use it.  Fullerton Cardigan The other is the Tranquil Tank Top, published by Lionbrand Yarn on their website. I originally found this pattern when they were having a KAL for it.  I didn't get it started then, but had it in my Ravelry projects page and ...

Disney Day

Sunday we spent a great day at Disney's California Adventure. The day at the park included several shows, a lot of great rides and a fun time with family! If you get to DCA don't miss the Aladdin show at the Hyperion Theatre. It was great! Broadway caliber performers! My 5 year old Nephew loved the Playhouse Disney on Stage show. I was so cute to watch him participate in all the fun the audience had. My daughters both liked California Screamin. I'm not into roller coasters so much anymore so I skipped that one. I think my favorite ride had to be the toy story carnival ride that opened recently . . . so much fun I was laughing the whole time and it was way worth the 45 minute wait to ride. All in all had a great day with family!
